From Coworkers to Forever

Merrill and Michael first met at work, where a professional connection quickly grew into something much more meaningful. Their relationship developed naturally, built on mutual respect, shared ambition, friendship, and an effortless chemistry that made being together feel easy from the very beginning. What started in a familiar setting soon became the foundation for a partnership rooted in both friendship and love.

A Surprise Proposal

Michael proposed during what Merrill thought was simply a birthday weekend getaway to Chicago. As a self-proclaimed type-A planner, Merrill wasn’t used to letting go of control, but Michael’s carefully planned surprise made the weekend unforgettable. The intimate proposal perfectly reflected their relationship, intentional, joyful, and full of love.

A Timeless Celebration at Greenfield Farms

On October 25, 2025, Merrill and Michael celebrated their wedding at Greenfield Farms, surrounded by the natural beauty of the property and the people closest to them.

From the very beginning, the couple envisioned a wedding that felt elevated yet effortless. Inspired by the understated luxury and natural beauty of Napa Valley, their design incorporated a rich, earthy palette of warm browns, soft neutrals, muted greens, deep burgundy, wine tones, and subtle golden accents.

Rather than relying on a perfectly uniform design, the couple embraced natural variation and layered textures. Seasonal fruits like grapes and figs, sculptural florals, soft candlelight, and organic greenery brought the vision to life, creating an atmosphere that felt like an elevated vineyard celebration with a distinctly vintage soul.

The overall result was refined organic design meets timeless romance, polished enough to feel editorial, but warm and inviting enough to feel completely personal.

A Ceremony Filled With Meaning

Set against the serene landscape of Greenfield Farms, the ceremony felt intimate and incredibly personal. The natural surroundings provided a beautiful backdrop while allowing the focus to remain on the significance of the moment.

One of the most meaningful details was having Michael’s father officiate the ceremony, adding a deeply personal connection to their exchange of vows.

Merrill also incorporated a beautiful piece of family history into her bridal look. She wore a custom necklace crafted from her mother’s original wedding dress, transforming a piece of her family’s past into a sentimental heirloom she could carry with her into her own wedding day.

It was the kind of detail that could easily go unnoticed by guests, but held immense meaning for the bride, a perfect reflection of the couple’s desire to make their wedding personal from the smallest details to the biggest moments.

An Elevated Vineyard-Inspired Reception

Following the ceremony, guests entered a reception space filled with the same warm, organic aesthetic. Long tables were layered with sculptural floral arrangements, seasonal fruit, glassware, candlelight, and natural textures, creating a tablescape that felt collected, artistic, and effortlessly elegant.

The vintage-inspired details continued throughout the celebration, complemented by rich, moody photography that gave the day an almost nostalgic quality. The combination of timeless styling, black-and-white imagery, and earthy color tones made the entire wedding feel like a modern celebration with the soul of another era.

And one of the sweetest details of the reception was the wedding cake created by Cakes by Anna.

The beautifully designed cake featured classic, intricate detailing that complemented the couple’s elegant aesthetic while adding another layer of artistry to the reception. Surrounded by florals and organic elements, the cake felt like a natural extension of the overall design, timeless, romantic, and thoughtfully crafted for the occasion.

A Nod to Scottish Heritage

One of the most memorable moments of the evening came as guests transitioned into the reception and were greeted by the sound of bagpipes.

The bagpipe-led entrance served as a heartfelt nod to Michael’s Scottish heritage and brought an unexpected, personal element to the celebration. Rather than simply incorporating tradition into the décor, the couple found a way to make Michael’s heritage part of the actual experience of the day.

It was a moment that perfectly captured what made their wedding so special: every meaningful detail had a story behind it.

Later in the evening, Merrill made another memorable entrance of her own, changing into a stunning Cult Gaia reception dress. The fashion-forward look brought a modern energy to the celebration and marked the transition from the intimate ceremony into an evening filled with celebration and dancing.

Choosing the Experience Over Perfection

When Merrill reflects on the wedding planning process, one of her biggest takeaways is the importance of letting go.

As someone who describes herself as a type-A planner, learning to trust the process became especially meaningful, not only during the wedding planning itself, but during the surprise proposal Michael planned for her in Chicago.

That same perspective carried into the wedding day.

When asked what advice she would give to other couples planning their weddings, Merrill shared a sentiment that perfectly captures the spirit of their own celebration:

For Merrill and Michael, authenticity was found in the details that mattered most: a necklace made from Merrill’s mother’s wedding dress, a ceremony officiated by Michael’s father, a bagpipe-led transition honoring his Scottish heritage, and a celebration inspired by the places and aesthetics they love.

Their October wedding at Greenfield Farms was beautiful, certainly, but more importantly, it was meaningful, personal, and entirely their own.
